Tapio Haaja’s builder corner

About

Portrait of Tapio Haaja

I’m Tapio Haaja, CCO at Intentface in Helsinki, where I help SaaS companies bring agentic AI into production. Twenty years in media and creative before that. If you want the professional side, head over to my LinkedIn.

This is my corner for the things I build. Small creative tools, Final Cut Pro X plugins, retro gaming experiments. I ship them to stay close to the making. Have a look around.

Creative tools

A set of free browser apps I built with a lot of help from LLMs (yes, vibecoded).

Local Video Cropper

Crop, reframe & trim video locally in your browser. Free, no uploads, processed entirely on your device. Built on the new WebCodecs standard, so it uses your browser’s own hardware codecs to encode at real-time speed. Works on desktop and mobile.

Photography on Unsplash

72M+ views, given away for free

I shoot photography and give it away on Unsplash, where my work has passed 72 million views and 580,000 downloads. The numbers are fun, but the better part is watching where the photos end up. I once tracked a single Helsinki tram photo across 180+ sites in 25+ countries, from Forbes to the World Economic Forum to newspapers in Japan and Argentina. One photo, many lives.

Final Cut Pro X plugins

A collection of eight free Final Cut Pro X plugins I’ve made, downloaded over 70,000 times. Built to speed up your editing with quick text reveals, animations, and highlight effects. No keyframes or masks required.

Retro gaming

These are original maps I built by hand in 1996 and 1997, back when levels were passed between players through fan communities and BBS archives. Nearly three decades later they still run.

DarkCity Duke Nukem 3D, 1996

One of my first levels, built for Duke Nukem 3D in 1996. A compact city block designed to be played in the dark, with keycards to find, aliens to fight, and a boss at the end. Twenty-one years later, Scent-88 reviewed it and gave it 91/100.

The Place of Two Bases Quake, 1997

A Capture The Flag level I built for Quake in 1997, compiled overnight on a Pentium 133 with 16 MB of RAM. It made it onto the PC Zone Complete Quake CD that Christmas, sharing a disc with 500 other maps. It still runs today.
